A whole school reading policy designed to close gaps for secondary school Pupil Premium students

This session will share a range of interventions and whole-school approaches which successfully boost the literacy, vocabulary and oracy of all secondary school students – but especially disadvantaged learners.  The session explores approaches to improving academic reading (disciplinary literacy) as well as reading for pleasure, and how to embed strategic ways of approaching texts. The emphasis will be on building whole school strategies which work for different subjects.  It will give cost and time-effective reading/literacy interventions and suggestions for when and how to use them.
